Loch Maree from Poolewe   Croft Cottages

Original stone built semi-detached crofter’s cottage in a quiet secluded situation by the river Ewe with spacious private
grounds in which to relax and enjoy the uninterrupted views of the mountains and Loch Maree.
The area is rich in wildlife. A variety of birds, pine martens, foxes, seals, red and roe deer are commonly seen while
relaxing and walking in these magnificent surroundings.
The village of Poolewe (0.5 mile from the cottage) is set amongst some of the most magnificent scenery in Britain and
has three hotels where meals are available, local shops and Post Office (with public phone), and a heated swimming pool.
There are a number of clean sandy beaches. Other activities available in the area include golf, fishing, walking, climbing,
pony treking and boat trips.
The Gulf Stream meets the coast of Scotland here and allows tropical plants to flourish.
Close to Poolewe is the famous Inverewe Tropical Gardens with it’s self service restaurant.
The gardens, run by the National Trust for Scotland, is a spectacular oasis of colour and fertility on a promontory by a sea
loch. The garden is full of tender plants from the Himalayas, Chile, New Zealand, and elsewhere.
This unforgettable garden, with an international reputation for plant content, has been developed as a series of waymarked
walks through shrubberies, rock gardens, pools, and a valley.
Poolewe is an excellent base from which to tour the highlands by car.
Within easy reach are the Torridon and Beinn Eighe nature reserves, the Corrishalloch Gorge and the Hydroponicum at
Achiltibui.
To the north lies the picturesque fishing village of Ullapool with its ferry link to Stornoway.
The area provides endless inspiration for both artist and photographer.
Each bend and turn in the roads opening new vistas that demanding to be captured on canvas, water colour or film.
Little wonder so many return year after year to this magnificent part of the Highlands of Scotland.
