East End Cottage is a delightful traditional Highland
stone cottage standing on the Main Street of Lochcarron. It has an
attractive loch-side position with superb views across the water to
the mountains and hills to the south.
The cottage is situated in Lochcarron village and is conveniently
located within a few minutes' easy walking distance of
shops, pubs, restaurants, etc.
The property has been very tastefully modernised whilst retaining
many traditional features - e.g. panelled walls, open
fireplaces, sash windows.
On the ground floor, the cottage has an attractive open-plan layout
with separate dining and lounge areas, and with stairs
leading off. Through a doorway at the rear of the lounge is a small
hallway leading to the kitchen and bathroom.
The "stable" type kitchen door leads out into a pleasant
sheltered rear garden, ideal for sitting out on sunny days.
Heating in the cottage is by a combination of open fire in the lounge
together with a cast-iron "pot-bellied" stove in the
dining area, the latter providing adequate heat for the whole cottage.
In addition, electric oil-filled radiators are placed strategically
throughout the property for background heating when required.
Upstairs, there are 2 charming bedrooms, each with panelled walls
and coombed ceilings, and with Velux windows giving
superb views across Loch Carron towards Attadale.
There is plenty of free on-street parking space, both directly outside
the cottage, and also in a parking bay a few yards away
on the opposite side of the road.
Lochcarron is on the west coast of the Scottish Highlands, some 63
miles west of Inverness, and is an excellent base for
touring the North West Highlands, with places such as Plockton, Applecross
(with it's famous high-level approach via the
Bealach na Ba), Shieldaig, Torridon, and Skye, all being within easy
reach.
There are many good walks in the area to suit all tastes and abilities,
ranging from gentle strolls to more serious hill-walking.
There are several Munro's in the vicinity, and a number of long-distance
walks starting from Glen Carron just a short distance
to the east.
River, loch, and sea fishing are all available locally, and Lochcarron
has a slipway for launching boats, together with a number
of visitor moorings.
There is a golf course just half a mile to the east of the village,
to which visitors are welcome. The course is on the shores of
Loch Carron in a lovely setting with superb views south across the
loch.
Lochcarron village and the surrounding area has all necessary local
amenities, with hotels, bars, restaurants, garages, filling
stations, shops, post office, and a bank (with Cashpoint).
