Strathconon   Strathkyle - Milton - Strathconon

"Strathkyle" is a newly built bungalow set in spectacular surroundings in Strathconon.
Finished and furnished to a very high standard the bungalow has double glazing throughout and oil fired underfloor heating
making it very comfortable and cosy.
Wooden flooring with rugs complete the modern practical layout. The bungalow is disabled friendly.

Strathconon is one of the most beautiful glens in Scotland, the drive from the village of Marybank, through the wooded glen
is spectacular.
Once a thriving crofting community, Strathconon was cleared of some five hundred people between 1840 and 1848.
The ruins of some houses remain while others lie beneath the clear waters of Loch Meig as a result of a dam built by the
Hydro Electric Board.
Today there is a strong local community where many work on Strathconon Estate, others commuting to Inverness or Dingwall.

The peaceful, relaxing surroundings provide the perfect location for those seeking an 'away from it all' holiday.
There are numerous hill, woodland and river walks where wildlife abounds.
For the more active, mountain climbing rewards the participants with spectacular views of the area.
Excellent fishing is available on Loch Meig.
Golfers will enjoy the 18 hole courses at Strathpeffer and Muir of Ord. For those wishing to travel a little further
there are excellent courses at Fortose and Rosemarkie, Dornoch and Inverness.

Strathconon has easy access to the Highlands and Islands and in particular the magnificent west coast of Scotland.

The spa village of Strathpeffer (12 miles) has Victorian architectural twirls such as verandahs and ornamental barge-boards.
Around 1819, scientific analysis of the spa water created a 'boom town'.
A delightful village, Strathpeffer has lovely shops and a chocolate factory.

Dingwall is the county town and main shopping centre and can be reached by car in 30 minutes.

A day trip to the picturesque west coast fishing village of Ullapool with its ferry link to Stornoway will be enhanced by
stopping to see the Corrieshalloch Gorge and the magnificent Falls of Rogie.

The Highland capital city of Inverness is a thriving tourist centre with good shopping facilities, theatre, cinemas, castle
and aquadome. Daily cruises on Loch Ness leave from the Caledonian Canal Basin.

The Moray Firth is home to the bottle nosed Dolphins which can often be seen leaping and frolicking quite close to
the shore. Dolphin spotting boat trips are available from Inverness and throughout the Moray Firth area.

A further 14 miles south of Inverness, the ruins of Urquhart Castle are situated on the side of Loch Ness, close to
the village of Drumnadrochit.
The Loch Ness Monster Centre close to the village has audio-visual displays as well as a gift shop and restaurant.

A few miles east of Inverness, close to the village of Ardersier, is the finest fortress in Europe - Fort George.
Once the main depot of the famed Seaforth Highlanders regiment, the fort is still an army garrison. It is open to the
public and has a fine military museum well worthy of a visit.

A few miles south of Fort George, is Culloden Moor. It was here the Jacobites lead by Bonnie Prince Charlie were defeated
by forces under the command of the notorious Duke of Cumberland, known to this day in Scotland as "The Butcher Cumberland".
There is an audio-visual display centre close to the battlefield.

A few miles east of Culloden Moor are Cawdor Castle, Brodie Castle and Darnaway Castle, all of which are open to
the public.

Your holiday in Strathconon will be a truly memorable experience.
