Achmelvich Bay   Aros

‘Aros’ is a detached bungalow standing only a few hundred yards from the sea and enjoying magnificent views across the
bay of Culkein to the mountains beyond.
Culkein beach is clean, sandy and safe for children. So to are other beautiful unspoiled beaches nearby, at Clashnessie,
Achmelvich and Stoer.
Small boats can be launched from Culkein beach or larger ones from the slipway at the jetty.
The small village of Culkein is 3 miles from Stoer and 10 miles from Lochinver ~ the latter being the main centre for the area.
Lochinver has a fine selection of shops, post office, garages, churches, hotels and restaurants as well as a pottery.
The new visitor centre is worthy of a visit as is the well stocked bookshop/coffee shop a few miles further south at
Inverkirkaig.
Outdoor activities in the Assynt area include walking, hill walking, climbing, fishing and bird watching.
The area is rich in wildlife while Handa Island RSPB Reserve and Inverpolly National Nature Reserve are both near enough
to make them an interesting days excursion.
Among the nearby mountains are the distinctive peaks of Suilven and Quinag which the more adventurous can climb in a
day.
Sea and Loch angling permits may be obtained at Lochinver where pleasure cruises are also available.
Around 44 miles south of Culkein is the fishing port of Ullapool with its ferry link to Stornoway.
